JM Design Studio was commissioned to develop a design proposal for a new permanent pavilion at Millstreet Equestrian Centre in Ireland. This project replaces the existing temporary marquee and judges’ cabin with a high-quality, functional building that enhances viewing capacity and provides a modern, flexible space for both equestrian events and off-season activities. The proposed two-storey pavilion features a staggered design that integrates a balcony overlooking the arena and a covered walkway to the rear. The building’s aesthetic blends seamlessly with the equestrian environment, utilising a restrained palette of durable materials, including timber and powder-coated aluminum, to ensure longevity and elegance.
The project emphasises speed, efficiency, and offsite construction, employing a hybrid “kit-of-parts” approach. Key elements such as wall and roof panels, as well as volumetric kitchen and toilet modules, are prefabricated to allow for quick assembly onsite, ensuring the facility is operational by June 2025. The design prioritises flexibility, with spaces that can be adapted for events and additional seating if needed. Thoughtful consideration has been given to sustainability and comfort, with provisions for photovoltaic panels, efficient HVAC systems, and accessible layouts. This distinctive pavilion stands as a functional yet striking centerpiece for the equestrian centre, supporting its dynamic program of events while enriching its architectural character.
